The Baileys Harbor A's plated five runs in the first inning and never needed more than that in a 8-3 win over Institute on the Door County League's opening day on Sunday.
Afer the Cubs threatened in their half of the first inning by leaving the bases loaded, the A's took advantage of five walks and three errors to take the 5-0 lead. It would stay that way until the sixth inning when the Cubs got on the board thanks to Caleb Hoffman's RBI groundout that drove in Robbie Pollman. The A's got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Danny Lodl registered a run-scoring single. The A's made it 7-1 in the seventh when they scored on another Cubs error and 8-1 on a Brett Anschutz eighth inning double. The Cubs staged a small comeback in the ninth, drawing four straight walks before Sam Zirbel's RBI ground out.
Anschutz got the win on the mound as he allowed one run (1 ER) on five hits across seven innings while striking out eight. Pollman lost as he gave up no hits and struck out five, but was victimized by five walks and number of errors, leading to five unearned runs.
