Phoenix women win, men stumble in Saturday games

Two streaks continued for the Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams on Saturday with the women beating Robert Morris at home and the men falling to Purdue Fort Wayne on the road.

In their 71-39 win, the Phoenix women trailed 15-13 after the first quarter, but they allowed nine total points over the next two quarters en route to their 14th straight win. The Phoenix overcame a slow start to shoot over 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from behind the arc in the game. Thanks to four three-pointers, Maddy Schreiber paced the Phoenix with 18 points off the bench. Three other Phoenix players reached double figures, Natalie McNeal scoring 13 points, Luxemburg-Casco's Cassie Schiltz chipping in 12 points, and Bailey Butler adding another 11 points. Thanks to more than 2,000 fans in attendance, the Phoenix honored breast cancer survivors and raised thousands of dollars for a local cancer-related organization.

The Phoenix men saw their losing skid hit 20 games with an 89-74 loss to Purdue Fort Wayne. An early lead disappeared when the Mastodons went on an 18-7 run fueled by Phoenix fouls and clutch shooting. Jeremiah Johnson led the Phoenix with 20 points and seven rebounds. Marcus Hall contributed 13 points before fouling out and Ben Tweedy tallied 11 points in the loss.
