A 17-6 run late in the second half was not enough to dig out of an earlier-made hole as the Green Bay Phoenix men lost to St. Thomas 90-76.
The two teams traded baskets early before the Tommies went on an 11-2 run near the first half's midway point that set them up for the easy win the rest of the way. The Tommies extended their lead to as much as 20 points before the Phoenix were able to cut the lead to single digits. The Phoenix would get no closer than nine points as the Tommies were able to respond. Anthony Roy and Marcus Hall once again led the Phoenix in scoring, registering 24 and 17 points respectively. C.J. O'Hara scored 10 points and Preston Ruedinger added nine points in the loss. The Tommies had four players score at least 14 points, including 23 points from Miles Barnstable.
The Phoenix men will have to wait until their trip to Macomb, Ill. to get into the win column when they travel to face Western Illinois on Wednesday.
The Phoenix women are set to host Northern Iowa for their season opener at the Kress Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
