A pitcher's duel ended with Sister Bay capturing their second straight Door County League "double" title, winning the playoff championship game against Kolberg Sunday afternoon 2-0.
The Bays' Sam Forkert and the Braves' Trevor Reinhardt went toe-to-toe threw the game's first six innings. Forkert dodged the first bullet when the Braves had two men on in the first inning. The Bays averted the threat when Tom Sawyer threw out Trevor Reinhardt at second base on a delayed double steal attempt with Jack Peterson. Schneider got out of his own jam in the second with two men on when he forced to Stewart Larsen into double play to Reinhard to end the frame.
It remained tied at 0-0 until the bottom of the seventh when the Bays' Spencer Krause, Griffin Cole, and Sam Forkert all reached to load the bases. With Reinhardt on the mound in relief of Schneider, Matt Hecht broke the tie with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
After Larsen reached to load the bases again, Sawyer Johnson delivered an RBI single to give the Bays an important insurance run late.
The Bays would threaten once more in the eighth inning, but a nifty play made by Reinhardt allowed the Braves to stay within striking distance in the ninth.
The Braves would get a man on, but Austin Dart flew out to Alex Laughlin to end the game and give the Bays their fourth straight DCL title (two regular season, two playoff).
Postgame, the DCL honored Krause as its batter of the year, Jeremiah Jahnke (Maplewood) as its pitcher of the year, and Kevin Brauer (Maplewood) as its manager of the year.
