Islanders clinch playoff berth on 105.1 The GOAT

A pair of errors allowed Washington Island to score the game-tying and eventual game-winning runs of a 4-3 victory over Egg Harbor Sunday afternoon.

The Islanders got on the scoreboard first in the third inning when Cam Munao scored on a passed ball, and Ray McDonald delivered a one-out single that brought home Caleb Cornell to make it 2-0. The Indians wasted no time getting back at the Islanders, With Isaac Berkley scoring on an error and Nick Kita singling home two more to make it 3-2 in the bottom of the third.

The Indians' defense betrayed them in the middle innings when a hard-hit ball to Corey Fuller was mishandled, allowing Ben Geiger to score to tie the game. Fuller would be snakebit again in the fifth inning when a hard-hit ball by McDonald was also misplayed, allowing Alex Johnson to score.

The Indians couldn't solve the puzzle that was Jon Kordon after the third inning, only getting four base runners the rest of the way, including two in the ninth inning. Kordon ended his complete-game effort by striking out his former Baileys Harbor teammate Berkley for his ninth strikeout of the game.

The Islanders' win puts them in the playoffs as the fourth-seed, and they return to the scene of last year's Door County League playoff championship game with a date against Sister Bay. The game will take place next Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and will air on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.
