Kolberg shares title with win over Mets on 105.1 The GOAT

The Kolberg Braves clinched a tie for the Door County League regular season title with a hard-fought 7-4 win over the Maplewood Mets on Sunday.

Kolberg (12-2) tied with Sister Bay atop the DCL and will now play the Bays to determine who gets the number one seed in the DCL playoffs.

The Braves jumped to a 4-0 lead in the second inning as Nick LeCaptain capped the rally with a two-run single.

Kolberg would add two more runs in the fourth inning to make it 6-0 with a pair of sacrifice flies by Jake Schneider and Tyler Neinas, respectively.

Maplewood finally scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after squandering scoring opportunities in the first three innings. A misplayed fly ball to right field allowed Will Jandrin and Kody Kissinger to score to pull the Mets within 6-2.

After the Braves added a run in the fifth to make it 7-2, Jayden Diller hit an RBI double in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-3.

The Mets did make it interesting in the ninth by loading the bases with two outs and having the tying run at the plate, but Braves’ reliever Austin Rohe struck out Will Jandrin to end the game.

Neinas  led Kolberg with three hits and two RBIs, while Tory Jandrin and Kissinger had two hits for the Mets.

Maplewood outhit Kolberg, ten to nine, but left 15 base runners stranded in the loss.

Schneider pitched six innings and allowed nine hits but only one earned run while striking out nine in picking up the win for Kolberg.  Jeremiah Jahnke went the distance and took the tough loss allowing nine hits and six earned runs while striking out 10.

The Mets knocked off the Bays last Sunday 9-4 to create the drama of the top two seeds this weekend.  Adam Gutchow had a huge game with a home run and five RBIs to lead Maplewood, while Mark Villers added a two-run shot in the win.  Jeremiah Jahnke got the win pitching seven innings and not allowing any earned runs.

Maplewood (10-4) will be the third seed in the DCL playoffs while the other three seeds are still to be determined between Sister Bay, Kolberg, Washington Island (7-7), and Egg Harbor (7-7).
