A forgettable fourth inning spelled the end for the Algoma Penguins' season on Thursday night in a 7-1 loss to the Denmark Devilbears.
After scoring single tallies in the first and third innings, the Devilbears put the Penguins on ice when Jacob Kleeman clubbed a grand slam to make it a 6-0 lead. It was his third run-scoring hit of the evening. Austen Dart's RBI hit in the sixth inning was the lone run scored by the Penguins in the game. Dart registered three of the team's five hits on the night. The Penguins were flummoxed by Devilbears pitcher Reece Piontek, who allowed the one run on four hits while striking out 15. Carson Leist took the loss for the Penguins, allowing six runs (5 ER) on seven hits across five innings of work.
