Penguins hang on for 9-7 playoff win over Denmark

The Algoma Penguins knocked off the Denmark Devilbears 9-7 Tuesday night with a monster game from Austen Dart that included a grand slam.

Dart collected three hits with his four RBIs to pace the Penguins’ offense, that exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-3 lead.

Algoma tacked on single tallies in the sixth and seventh inning, before Denmark rallied with three runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth to make things interesting.

Spencer Krause and Jack Peterson each had two hits, including doubles, to compliment Dart’s big night.

The Penguins outhit the Devilbears 11-8 and turned two timely double plays on defense to help secure the win.

Justin Massey got the win going five innings and giving up three hits and three runs while striking out five.  Charlie Prokash picked up the save recording the final two outs of the game.

The Penguins will play game two in the best –of-three playoff series in Denmark Wednesday night with a potential deciding game in Algoma on Thursday.
