Maplewood doubles up Institute

Maplewood withstood a late charge by Institute to win their game by a 6-3 margin.

The Mets jumped to a 2-0 in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Kordell Draves and a sacrifice fly from Tory Jandrin. The Mets would double their lead in the fourth inning when Mark Villers singled in one run and scored from second base on a wild pitch.

The Cubs would finally get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning thanks to an error on Jeremiah Jahnke, but they would give it back an inning later when the Mets' Zach Marchant led off the sixth inning with a home run. Draves would tack on an insurance run in the seventh inning with an RBI single that brought Jayden Diller around to score to make it 6-1.

The Cubs would stage a small comeback late in the game thanks to an RBI single from Kyle Ploor in the eighth inning and another one from Caleb Hoffman in the ninth, but eventually lost to drop to 0-11 on the season. The Mets strengthened their hold on third place to improve to 8-3 on the year, one game behind second-place Kolberg for a potential home playoff game.
