Kordon goes the distance in Islanders win on 105.1 The GOAT

Washington Island's Jon Kordon ensured the Islanders stayed in the playoff mix with a complete-game 5-2 win over Kolberg on Sunday. It didn't start well for Kordon, who saw Jack Peterson take him deep to make it 1-0 Braves before the Islanders even swung their bats. It stayed that way until the bottom of the second inning when Caleb Cornell slugged his own homer, bringing Ray McDonald and Cam Munao along for the ride. Peterson would come through an RBI hit to make 3-2, but a pitcher duel broke out from there.

Both Kordon and Kolberg's Jake Schneider controlled the middle innings with timely defense and important strikeouts. Schneider's run ran out in the seventh with Ben Geiger and Troy Jorgenson picking up RBI singles to tack on insurance runs. Despite the bullpen being active from the fifth inning on, Kordon finished the game strong by ending the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings before forcing a groundout to end the game.
