Coming down to the final pitch, the Washington Island Islanders were able to hold off the Egg harbor Indians 10-8 in Egg Harbor Sunday afternoon.
Islander pitcher Bennett Isaacson was able to strike out the final two batters with the bases loaded in the ninth and the tying run on at second base to preserve the win for Washington Island.
Washington Island jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the second off Indian pitcher Drew Price to take a commanding 5-0 lead that stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Indians responded by scoring five runs in the fifth, powered by a three-run home run by Eric DeJardine.
The Islanders recaptured the lead 6-5 before Egg Harbor took the lead back with a two-run fifth inning to make the score 7-6.
Washington Island tied the game at 7-7 in the sixth on an RBI single by Matt Foss, and then exploded for three more runs in the seventh inning for a 10-7 lead.
After a scoreless eighth inning, the drama built in the ninth inning as the Indians loaded the bases with nobody out. Body Kollrath was hit by a pitch that forced in a run after Drew Price was called out on strikes. Isaacson then got the win by striking out pinch hitter Joe Sawyer and Anthony Jennerjohn to end the game.
Jace Johnson took the loss for the Indians in relief, while DeJardine finished with four RBIs to lead the Egg Harbor attack.
Luke Gieger had five hits and Foss finished with three RBIs to pace the Islanders.
