Fast start sends Mets to victory over Islanders

Maplewood scored the game's first six runs in a 10-5 win over Washington Island on the road Sunday afternoon.

The Mets scored four runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Adam Gutschow, a two-run homer from Kordell Draves, and the first of six Islanders errors. After chasing pitcher Ryan Jorgenson from the game after just over an inning of work, Tory Jandrin made it 6-0 with a two-run single in the second inning.

The Islanders would scratch across their first run on a bases-loaded hit by a pitch to make it 6-1 after two innings, and they would cut the lead in half in the third inning thanks to Troy Jorgenson's double and an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Ray McDonald. The Mets would get one of those runs back in the fifth with an RBI double from N Wagner and extend it further with a run-scoring double from Jaden Diller. Caleb Cornell would make it 8-4 in the seventh with an RBI sacrifice fly, only to have the Mets answer with two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Cornell's second RBI sacrifice fly would make it 10-5, but they would get no closer.

Jeremiah Jahnke earned the win for the Mets, allowing four runs (3 ER) on six hits while striking out seven.
