The Green Bay Rockers turned a slim one-run lead in the third inning into a 10-run blowout as they beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 12-2 on Wednesday night.
Two RBI singles and a run-scoring sacrifice fly gave the Rockers an early 3-1 lead they would let dwindle but never give up. The Rockers scored at least one run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before blowing the game wide open in the eighth inning with a five-run frame. That inning was highlighted by a one-out grand slam slugged by Mateo Matthews.
Matthews had five RBI on the night, while Sam Miller and Cooper Kelly each brought home two. The Rockers pounded out 14 hits in the win, including three from Mulivai Levu and five others with at least two hits. Conner Nolen improved to 5-1 on the season, striking out four across three scoreless inning in relief.
