Washington Island blasts Institute

A nine-run third inning catapulted the Washington Island Islanders to a 16-0 win over the Institute Cubs Sunday afternoon on the island.

Leading 1-0 heading into the third inning, Luke Geiger hit a grand slam to jump-start the Islanders offense. After two bases-loaded walks, RBI singles by Caleb Cornell and Geiger, and a sacrifice fly, the Islanders were on cruise control with a 10-0 lead. The Islanders would have a four-run sixth inning sandwiched between two innings of single runs to help lead the game to finish after eight innings. Cornell and Geiger each had two hits for the Islanders. Geiger led the Islanders with six RBI, while Troy and Ryan Jorgenson, and Cornell each had two RBI. Ryan Jorgenson earned the win as he pitched the final five innings, allowing no runs on three hits.

Nick Peterson, Frankie Ash, Jaeger Brusky, Caleb Hoffman, and Arthur Hocevar picked up hits in the loss for the Cubs.
