Islanders Leave Port Happy on 105.1 the GOAT

On a cool, breezy Sunday afternoon, the Washington Island would finally put a tally in the win column as they claim a road victory 7-6 over West Jacksonport.  The Islanders would jump to an early 2-0 lead scoring a run in each of the first two innings on RBI singles by Matt Petersilka in the 1st and Caleb Cornell in the 2nd.  West Jacksonport would rally back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the 2nd on back to back RBI hits by Jack DeYoung and Carter Beiri.

After a scoreless 3rd, the Islanders would regain the lead on a bases loaded wild pitch by Ports starting pitcher Aiden Colombo. DH Woody Shartner would tie the game back up in the bottom half of the 4th with a RBI double.  In the 5th inning the Ports would take their first and only lead of the game thanks to Max Bordeau's RBI single drove in  Alec Shartner and make the score at the end of the fifth 3-4.  Washington Island would tie the game up 4-4 in the 6th, on Troy Jorgenson's RBI single.

The 7th inning ended up being the deciding inning when the Islanders used the strong breezes to their advantage. Ben Geiger sent a 2-run shot, and Caleb Cornell sent a solo shot over the over the left-center field fence off the arm of Drew Tank, jumping to a 7-4 lead.  The pesky Ports would not go away quietly and used that same wind to help lift a 2-run blast over that same stretch of fence off the bat of Carter Beiri in the 8th tightening the game to a 7-6 score.  The Ports would get the game tying run to the plate in the 9th, but could not get Derek Niedswiski firther than 1st base.
