Mets Survive Islander Pressure on 105.1 The GOAT

The Washington Island Islanders applied pressure all day against the Maplewood Mets, but the Mets came out on top in a 1-2 battle Sunday in Door County Baseball Action. Runs were hard to come by for both teams, as runners reached base in every half-inning from the top of the first through the fifth inning.

In the bottom half of the 5th inning, Mark Villers, who reached on a leadoff walk, came around and scored after a sacrifice by Kody Kissinger and an RBI single by Adam Gutschow, which plated the day's first run. Tory Jandrin, who took over the mound in the top of the 5th, turned the Islanders away in order in the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th, Zach Marchant hit what would end up being the game-winning run with a home run to left field.

The Islanders would not go away quietly and would answer in the top of the 7th when leadoff hitter Troy Jorgenson reached on a single, eventually coming home on a throwing error by the Mets pitcher.  Entering the 9th inning, the Islanders still trailed 1-2 but would end up loading the bases.  Islander Ben Johnson would come to the plate with two outs and bases loaded, but Mets closer Jayden Diller would get him to pop out to Kordel Draves at first base to end the inning.

Final lines are The Mets move to 2-0 on 2 R, 5 H, 1 E, 8 LOB, while the Islanders fall to 0-2 on 1 R, 6 H, 0 E, 10 LOB.  Next week's featured game on 105.1 the Goat and New Radio Sports Network will be Maplewood @ West Jacksonport.
