Umpire Shortage Continues in DCL

The 2024 Door County Baseball League season will open with shortages in the umpire pool.  With retirements and relocations, the league is stretched thin on fielding eight umpires every week.

Umpire-in-Chief for the DCBL, Roger Van Lanen, urges anyone interested in becoming a baseball umpire to seek certification through the WIAA or document their experience to be considered.  Candidates will take the WIAA test and be required to have a background check. Umpires are compensated for each game they officiate.  The 2024 season kicks off on Sunday, May 12.  Van Lanen can be reached at (920) 609-2214 or rogervanlanen@gmail.com.

Whether behind the plate or in the field, umpires are key to a successful season of great home-town baseball. For love of the league, step up to the plate.
