Phoenix women, men drop early week games

The Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams have had a tough go since the squads topped in-state rival UW-Milwaukee last weekend.

In a Tuesday matinee, the Phoenix women battled the bigger DePaul Blue Demons until the bitter end before eventually falling 68-64 on the road.  Natalie McNeal and Maddy Schreiber each scored 16 points, while Bailey Butler chipped in 12 points in the loss that snapped a two-game winning streak. The Phoenix shot a dismal 19 percent from behind the arc, hitting just five of their 26 attempts. They will try to shake it off when they play UIC next Wednesday.

The Phoenix men fell behind and never recovered in its 78-69 loss to SIU-Edwardsville on Wednesday night. Noah Reynolds was again the leading scorer for the Phoenix with 20 points, his third time eclipsing that mark. Elijah Jones added 11 points and Foster Wonders contributed 11 points in the loss.  The game was won at the line as the Cougars made 14 more free throws (28-39) than the Phoenix attempted (8-14). The Phoenix will rest up before returning to the Resch Center on Saturday against Western Illinois.
