Gamblers swept in opening weekend

The Green Bay Gamblers had a rough return to a normal USHL schedule last weekend, losing to the Dubuque Fighting Saints on the road Friday night 9-0 and at the Resch Center 4-3 on Saturday.

In their 9-0 loss, the Fighting Saints took advantage of eight power plays, converting four of them while outshooting the Gamblers 37-20 on the night. The game featured over 100 penalty minutes with the Gamblers accumulating 66 of them.

In their 4-3 loss, the Gamblers were down 2-0 heading into the third period when Ben Poitras broke the weekend-long scoring drought. They would trade goals with their visitors for the rest of the period, with Luke Baker and Jake Duer scoring their first goals of the season.
