Bays drub Cubs on 105.1 The GOAT

The Sister Bay Bays batted around three separate times Friday night en route to a 21-2 win over the host Institute Cubs.

The Bays set the tone early with five runs in the first inning before batting around in the fourth, fifth, and very nearly in the sixth inning. Unforced mistakes by the Cubs led to several rallies as 26 of the total 38 baserunners for the Bays reached via a walk, error, hit batsmen, or fielder's choice. Tom Sawyer reached base seven times, collecting three hits and knocking in four runs. Griffin Cole had four hits and Sam Forkert chipped in a pair while five others had at least one hit.

The Bays pitching staff of Forkert, Spencer Krause, and Matt Hecht did not allow the Cubs to experience much happiness offensively, striking out 12 while allowing just three hits. Will Hartman was the star of the game for the Cubs, who complemented an RBI double in the third inning with back-to-back highlight-reel grabs in center field to thwart a Bays rally in the seventh inning. Nick Peterson scored both runs for the Cubs in the loss.

The Bays improve to 5-1 in the Door County Baseball League while the Cubs drop to 0-6. NEW Radio Sports Network and 105.1 The GOAT will be in Kolberg on Sunday for the Braves' matchup against the Baileys Harbor A's. Gary Barta and Reece Robillard will have the call beginning at 1:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 1:30 p.m. Other games include West Jacksonport heading to Washington Island and Egg Harbor hosting Maplewood.
