Door County Baseball League in Need of Umpires

It will be exciting to have baseball back in Door County this summer.  Players are starting to work out and the Door County Baseball League just finalized the 2022 schedule.  But without umpires, games will not operate.  The pool of DCBL umpires continues to dwindle and threatens the future of weekly games.

Umpire-in-Chief for the DCBL, Roger Van Lanen, urges anyone interested in becoming a baseball umpire to seek certification through the WIAA or document their experience to be considered.  Candidates will take the WIAA test and be required to have a background check. Umpires are compensated for each game they officiate.  The 2022 season kicks off on Sunday, May 8. There are 17 games throughout the DCBL summer season, but umpires are not asked to work every game.  For more information, contact Van Lanen at (920) 609-2214 or rvanlanen@new.rr.com .

Officiating can be mentally and physically challenging.  But it also brings fellowship, humor, boos and adrenaline rushes.  The love of sports is an escape and a means of giving back for the years of participation and passion for baseball.  Whether behind the plate or in the field, umpires are key to a successful season of great home-town baseball. For love of the sport, step up to the plate.
