he Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team will see its season come to a temporary halt this weekend due to COVID-19 protocols within the program. 

 

Senior Meghan Pingel was the first player to have to sit out the last seven days when COVID protocols kept her out of the lineup in the Phoenix's blowout victory over UIC. The impact of the virus spread within the program, forcing them to cancel their weekend games against Cleveland State and IPFW.

 

It marks the fourth and fifth games canceled for the Phoenix this season because of COVID-19 protocols, but it makes the first time it was because of their program. Chicago State, Detroit Mercy, and Oakland also had their games against the Phoenix canceled. The Phoenix picked up a forfeit against Detroit while its matchup against Oakland was declared a no-contest. The Phoenix have sought a similar designation for their scheduled games against the Mastodons and Vikings.

 

The Phoenix has not played a home game since its victory over Central Michigan on December 20th and now it will not play one until January 21st when they host in-state rival Milwaukee.

 

This does not affect the status of the men's program, which missed games earlier this month due its own COVID issues. They will still host IUPUI Thursday night at the Resch Center and Saturday against UIC.
