Green Bay women ends non-conference slate with victory

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team had to fight off a feisty Central Michigan squad Monday night, winning its final non-conference game 71-67.

Despite not playing in front of its Kress Center faithful for over a month and in general for close to two weeks due to its schedule and COVID cancellations, the Phoenix came out firing as they took a 19-11 first-quarter lead and a 10 point advantage into the half. They would be able to stretch that lead to as much as 16 points, but a 14-0 run by the Chippewas would eliminate that advantage in the fourth quarter. The Phoenix were able to pull ahead and clamp down on defense to avoid the upset.

Hailey Oskey led the way with 19 points while former Luxemburg-Casco star Cassie Schiltz pitched in 18 points in the victory.

The Phoenix return to action on Thursday, Dec. 30 at the Kress Center, against Detroit Mercy for a 7 p.m. tip. In men's basketball, the Phoenix had their December 22nd game against Minnesota moved to a 4 p.m. start.
