The Green Bay Packers were connected to plenty of stories on Wednesday involving defensive stars in the league.

Internally, there is still no news on the severity of Jaire Alexander's injured shoulder. He had to leave Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after using his shoulder primarily to make a tackle. Head coach Matt LaFleur said they are still getting opinions on the injury, going as far as saying Alexander could miss the entire season if surgery is required.

The Packers did sign cornerback Rasul Douglas off the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. A third-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, Douglas has recorded 178 tackles, 34 passes defended and five interceptions in 60 regular-season games with 29 starts. He is a consolation prize for what many Packers fans were hoping for when Stephon Gilmore was going to be reportedly released by the New England Patriots. Davante Adams was openly trying to recruit Gilmore after he reportedly told people he was interested in playing with the Packers. The Patriots opted to not release Gilmore, instead trading him to the Carolina Panthers for a sixth-round draft pick.

The NFL Network is reporting the Packers are close to signing linebacker Jaylon Smith from the Dallas Cowboys. He has 19 tackles in four games so far this year two years after signing a big extension with the Cowboys. The acquisition could become official as soon as today.
