Abysmal offensive performance puts damper on Badgers game at Soldier Field

The Wisconsin Badgers defense did what they could to keep the football team in the game against Notre Dame on Saturday, but the offense couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain in the 41-13 loss. The contest was played on a neutral site, at Soldier Field in Chicago, which is the home of the Chicago Bears.

Wisconsin led after one quarter, 3-0. Notre Dame climbed on top, 10-3, which ended up being the halftime score. In the third quarter, Wisconsin tied it back up on a touchdown pass from Graham Mertz to Kendric Pryor. The Badgers scored on a field goal in the fourth quarter to take a 13-10 lead, and then it all went downhill for Wisconsin

Notre Dame outscored Wisconsin 31-0 after Wisconsin’s fourth quarter field goal, including two interceptions returned for a touchdown in the final minutes. Badgers signal caller Graham Mertz had a disastrous performance, going 18 for 41 with 240 yards, a touchdown, and four interceptions. The Badgers are now 1-2 on the season and their next opponent will be the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday at Camp Randall. That game will be “Barry Alvarez Day,” and will honor the former athletic director and head football coach.

In other area college football, the St. Norbert College Green Knights were stopped in their tracks against the Lakeland University Muskies on the road, 40-8. The Green Knights will play against Benedictine at home on Hall of Fame Day.
