Braun officially calls it a career

A cornerstone of the Milwaukee Brewers franchise has made his retirement official on Tuesday morning. Ryan Braun announced that he is officially hanging up the cleats after a 14-season career that started in May of 2007. Braun is Milwaukee’s all-time franchise leader in home runs, the 2011 National League MVP, and a six-time All-Star selection. Braun has 352 career home runs and a .296 career batting average.

Braun said that while he still loves the game very much, the time is right for him to retire from his playing days. He also said that he weighed the decision for many months. Braun will be honored with an on-field ceremony prior to Milwaukee’s September 26th home game against the New York Mets.
