The Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA championship for the first time in 50 years behind Giannis Antetokounmpo historic play on Tuesday night.  Antetokounmpo scored 50 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Bucks held on for a 105-98 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

 

With the crowd at Fiserv Forum chanting “Bucks in Six” in the waning seconds, Antetokounmpo sealed the game with a free throw capping a 17 for 19 night at the charity stripe.

 

The victory gave the Bucks their first championship since 1971 when Milwaukee defeated the Baltimore Bullets on the road to sweep the series. 

 

The game started out sluggish with both teams struggling from the field before the Bucks took a comfortable 29-16 lead after one period.  The Suns responded by outscoring the Bucks 31-13 in the second quarter to take a 47-42 lead into intermission. 

 

The Bucks rallied to tie the game after three quarters 77-77, before seizing control in the fourth quarter and taking as much as an eight point lead down the stretch.  Phoenix was able to cut the lead to four, but Khris Middleton hit a clutch jumper with just under a minute to give the Bucks a 102-96 lead.

 

Antetokounmpo became only the second player in NBA history to win MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Finals MVP and All-Star Game MVP.
