University of Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz became the first college athlete to take advantage of new rules name, image, and likeness regulations that will affect the NCAA in the form of releasing a trademark logo. Mertz released a video through his Twitter page on Monday that shows a brand image surrounding his initials. Since Thursday, NIL rules have been in effect allowing college athletes to profit off of their name, image, likeness, and to file trademarks. There is no legislation currently passed in Wisconsin regarding NIL laws. The Wisconsin athletic department partnered with an organization called Opendorse, and created a program called “YouDub.” The program is expected to educate student-athletes to benefit from the new NIL landscape.
