Blizzard hang on for win on Military Appreciation Night

The Green Bay Blizzard donned red, white, blue, and camo uniforms which brought good fortunes with a win over the Iowa Barnstormers on Friday, despite a late scare. While running out the clock with less than ten seconds left in the fourth quarter up 48-44, an exchange on the snap to quarterback Brook Bolles cost the Blizzard a possession, and gave the Barnstormers one two more shots. Green Bay kept Iowa away from the end zone to take the four-point victory.

Scoring started in the first quarter Bolles had a rushing touchdown from a yard out and Daquan Neal ran an interception back to the house, and the game was tied at 13 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Bolles connected with Keshaun Taylor for a 32 yard score. Bolles got his second rushing touchdown before the half, and would pass another to Taylor from 35 yards out. The Blizzard led by twelve at one point in the second quarter, but went to halftime up 34-28.

The only score in the third quarter came on an Iowa field goal. With the Blizzard threatening to tie or even take the lead, the Blizzard separated with a 22-yard field goal by Jeff Budzein in the fourth. Shortly after, Iowa tied the game on a touchdown pass, but did not get the point after. With 12:00 left to go in the fourth quarter, the Blizzard would strike on an eight yard touchdown from Kerrion Moore and go up 45-37 after a two-point conversion run by Bolles. With just under a minute left, Budzein hit a 17-yard field goal to go up eleven, appearing to ice the game. The last score would come too late for Iowa, who made it a 48-44 game with 13 seconds left. Bolles passed for 123 yards in the game, and Keyondre Craig led the Blizzard in receptions, hauling in five for 47 yards.

With the win, the Blizzard are now 4-4 this season. Their next game will be on Sunday, July 4th at 3:05 PM, hosting the Sioux Falls Storm.
