When the NFL’s new league year begins at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, signaling the start of free agency, the Packers will have re-allocated a lot of money to get below the adjusted $182.5 million salary cap. Due to reduced league revenue amidst the pandemic, teams have been shedding salaries and restructuring contracts to get below the reduced salary cap, which was revealed on Wednesday. On Friday, the Packers restructured Outside Linebacker Preston Smith’s contract, and General Manager Brian Gutekunst reworked the contracts of Offensive Lineman Billy Turner and Safety Adrian Amos, who were signed along with Smith in March 2019. The reduced salary cap has already taken its toll on the Packers, who released Linebacker Christian Kirksey and Tackle Rick Wagner on February 19. With the cap number very limited, a lot of signs point to Running Back Aaron Jones and All-Pro Center Corey Linsley entering the open market on Wednesday.
