Badger football concludes season with a bowl win

The Wisconsin Badgers (4-3) football team pulled off a Duke's Mayo Bowl game win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-5), 42-28, on Wednesday afternoon.

Badgers quarterback Graham Mertz cashed in three touchdowns in his team's victory all while doing so with half of the total offensive yardage that Wake Forest amassed over the entire game. The Demon Deacons are recognized as one of college football's quickest starting teams and it showed right away with back-to-back touchdown drives over Wisconsin. After the explosive Wake Forest start, Wisconsin made consecutive defensive stops to claim a two-touchdown second quarter led by a Mertz 11-play scoring drive and touchdown run.

The Demon Deacons struck first in the second half after a Sam Hartman 50-yard touchdown pass to Jaquarii Roberson. Wisconsin changed the game's momentum with a 59-yard Devin Chandler kick return into Wake Forest territory to set up another Mertz rushing touchdown to tie the game at 21 points. Badgers defenseman Scott Nelson intercepted Hartman and returned it 60 yards to set up a game sealing Garrett Groshek 1-yard touchdown run. Mertz ended the game with 130 yards passing going 11/17 while Groshek led the rushing game with 41 of their 122 yards. Wisconsin concluded their season with a bowl win to make it their sixth bowl win in the last seven seasons.
