YMCA provides insight on safety and community engagement

The Door County YMCA swim program has been able to adjust to the challenges faced this year for members and staff with the ongoing health crisis.

New Radio Sports Network spoke with YMCA aquatic center director and coach Mike McHugh during the holiday season. McHugh explained how it has been a unique swim season in many aspects. The YMCA and McHugh have been thorough in protocols and share a strong communication line with members/supporters of the program.

McHugh shared his appreciation for everyone in regards to the perseverance with the aquatic center, YMCA, parents, coaches and other advocates.

The swim program has shown a proven track record of success dating back to when it first established its presence over 15 years ago. The coaching culture has adapted along with the athletes as well. The swim practices are totally off hands and that has cut down on some technique but a key aspect of the practice structure has been the intensity of short spurt practices during this pandemic.

The YMCA has been taking action in every safety aspect while engaging the community members to the best of their abilities.
