The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team is still searching for its first win of the season after dropping its league opener to Milwaukee Saturday afternoon 68-65.
Josh Jefferson scored 21 points and Amari Davis chipped in 18 points in the loss that saw the Phoenix have to claw back into the game late. The Panthers used a 12-2 run to give them a 49-41 lead with approximately 10 minutes left in the game. The Phoenix would whittle that down to a just a two advantage in the game's final minutes, but the Panthers used a late 7-0 run to put the game out of reach. Te'Jon Lucas led Milwaukee with 21 points in the win.
The two teams will face each other again Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Phoenix women saw their game against Illinois State get canceled after the Redbirds' previous opponent Omaha had a number of positive cases. The game was supposed to make up for Youngstown State canceling their weekend slate due to COVID-19 protocols.
