Phoenix suffer a pair of conference losses

The UWGB Phoenix womens’ basketball team tipped off Horizon League Conference play this weekend dropping a pair of games to the Milwaukee Panthers.

Green Bay opened conference play with a loss at the Kress Center on Saturday afternoon against the UW-Milwaukee Panthers, 61-58. The Phoenix started the game off on a slow note with a single digit first quarter. The Panthers closed the first half with a six point lead after Green Bay shot 25% from the field in the first half compared to Milwaukee’s 40%. Back-and-forth activity for the second half of play resulted in the Phoenix outsourcing Milwaukee, 39-36. Green Bay ran out of time in a last push effort led by the Milwaukee, Wisconsin native Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, who led the way for the Phoenix with 13 points.

Green Bay fell short in the second game of the weekend battle with Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon, 59-51. The Phoenix saw a contested battle again until the fourth quarter of play where the Panthers pulled away to outscore Green Bay, 21-12. Green Bay filed 16 bench points while Caitlyn Hibner splashed 18 points herself in the game with 5 rebounds. The Phoenix will travel to Oakland for another pair of conference games on January 1st and 2nd. Green Bay was initially slated for a set of home conference games against Youngstown State on December 19th and 20th, but were canceled due to COVID-19.
