Phoenix drop a pair of games to NDSU over the weekend

The Green Bay Phoenix womens’ basketball team dropped two games to the North Dakota State Bison this past weekend. Green Bay traveled to NDSU for two games, game one was on Saturday afternoon and game two was on Sunday afternoon.

Green Bay fell to the Bison in game one on Saturday, 59-51. The story of the game consisted of the Phoenix playing catchup after a slow start. The first half of play found the Bison up 34-18 after Green Bay shot 30% throughout the entire game. The Phoenix landed 2 three-pointers all game while NDSU hit 11 three-pointers. Green Bay did make a second half comeback, outscoring the Bison 33-25 but it was not enough to propel a win. Caitlyn Hibner led the Phoenix in scoring with 13 points while Jasmine Kondrakiewicz tallied nine points.

Game two of the weekend battle with NDSU configured into the same result for the Phoenix, taking another loss, 82-66. The Phoenix couldn't solve the Bison offense led by Heaven Hamling, dropping 17 points on Green Bay. Green Bay stayed within 11 points the first half and made a third quarter comeback to bring the game within two-possessions of the Bison, 62-58. The fourth quarter brought no luck for the Phoenix after the Bison tacked on 14 more points, which would prevail for a NDSU win, 76-64. Hibner led the team again in game two with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Green Bay starts conference play at home on Saturday against Milwaukee.
