UWGB men's basketball prepares for season tip-off

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team is nearing tip-off against the University of Minnesota Gophers. The highly anticipated wait is over for first year head coach Will Ryan, Ryan’s squad will be taking on Richard Pitino’s Gophers who finished 12th in the Big Ten Conference last season before it was cut short due to COVID-19. Meanwhile UWGB finished third in the Horizon League Conference for the 2019-2020 season under former coach Linc Darner. The Phoenix will return Horizon League Freshman of the Year Amari Davis, Davis is entering his second year as a true sophomore and was voted a spot on the preseason first-team all-league by the Horizon League Basketball committee. Other notable returners include senior PJ Pipes and redshirt senior Josh Jefferson, both will vouch for time at the guard position. Minnesota is led by standout point guard Marcus Carr, Carr averaged 15.4 points per game last season earning himself a nominee spot for the Jersey Mikes Naismith Trophy Watch List according to gophersports.com. UWGB travels to Minnesota for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday.
