Remembering Paul Hornung

1956 Heisman Trophy Winner of the Notre Dame Irish and Green Bay Packer legend Paul Hornung passed away late last week after a long battle with dementia. Former Green Bay Packer coach Vince Lombardi described him as “the greatest player I ever coached” and will be remembered by the sports world as the “Golden Boy”. Hornung played nine seasons with the Packers and contributed four of those seasons to NFL championships while leading the league in scoring from 1959 to 1961. In 1985 Hornung was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and one year later was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. NFL commissioner Roger Godell said in a statement " Paul Hornung thrilled a generation of NFL fans with his versatility, athleticism and personality.” Hornung passed at the age of 84 and is survived by his wife of 41 years, Angela Hornung. Due to COVID-19 the Packers will hold a public celebration of his life on a later date.
