Sturgeon Bay moves on potential switch to 8-Player Football

Sturgeon Bay could be on their way moving back to the 8-Player Football ranks beginning with the 2028-2029 school year.

According to Bound Wisconsin's Travis Wilson, the Clippers are among nearly a dozen schools that requested a change from the 11-Player level, joining schools like Howards Grove and Iola-Scandinavia.

This will be the second time in the last decade that the Clippers have explored the the 8-player route. Schools have to stay at the level for three years before making a decision to stay at 8-Player or move back up to 11-Player. Much like Algoma, Sturgeon Bay's enrollment will likely keep them out of the WIAA playoff picture until the association creates a way for schools with more than 200 students to have a postseason.

Sturgeon Bay Athletic Director Jon DuPuis says that they have not reached a final decision to move to 8-Man Football. With this being a football conference realignment year, they had to declare for 8-Man Football by October 1st. The official conference realignment paperwork does not have to be turned in until November 1st. "Sturgeon Bay to look at data and all options leading up to that date," DuPuis said in a text message to NEW Radio Sports Network.
