The Sturgeon Bay soccer team once again used a variety of goal scorers on Thursday to score a conference win on the pitch, this time a 9-1 decision against NEW Lutheran.
Head coach Jesus Mejia Jr. pointed to a tough shape employed by the Blazers to keep the Clippers off the scoreboard for the first 25 minutes. Grayson Neumann did his part to keep the Blazers in it with 12 saves on the night, including 10 in the first half. The goals came fast and furious over the final 55 minutes. "We hit a few really good combination play as well as some good individual play." Mason Fosheim scored the lone goal for the Blazers with Maddox Salzwedel providing the assist.
The win sets up an important match on Monday against Providence Academy at Clark Field with the Clippers needing a win to force a share of the Packerland Conference crown. Bryan Mazur and Peter Kerwin will have the match on U-102.1 beginning at 6:15 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
