Sturgeon Bay and Oconto went the distance Thursday night, with the Clippers battling through five sets before falling to Oconto, 3–2.
Oconto took the opening set 25–19 before Sturgeon Bay responded with a strong 25–16 victory in Set 2. The Clippers carried that momentum into a tight third set, pulling out a 26–22 win to take a 2–1 lead in the match. Oconto answered with a 25–14 victory in the fourth before taking the deciding fifth set, 15–10.
Audrey Harrington led Sturgeon Bay offensively with 13 kills and also recorded 13 digs and 2 aces. Izzy Schoeneman added 9 kills, 7 digs, and 1 ace while Prudence Goettleman contributed 5 kills and 2 blocks.
Auna Anderson finished with 4 kills and a block, while Reen Walker contributed across the board with 3 kills, 13 digs, 2 aces and 2 blocks.
Setter Makenna Coyhis recorded 34 assists and 4 digs, while Jericha Reynolds added 5 digs and 2 aces.
The Clippers’ strongest offensive set came in the second, when they put down 12 kills on 25 attempts and hit .320 as a team. Sturgeon Bay also showed improvement in serve receive as the match progressed, posting passing ratings of 2.53 in the third set, 1.89 in the fourth and 2.20 in the fifth.
