Big innings help Clippers baseball sail past Cougars to regional semifinals

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team hung crooked numbers on their hosts in two different innings to advance with a 9-4 win over Coleman on Thursday.

Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Clippers scored four times in the second inning Dom Blish, Elisha Baumann, and Ethan Kratcha registering back-to-back-to-back run scoring hits. The Clippers would be held silent until the sixth inning with their lead standing at 4-2. In that frame, Steven Prescott's single scored two runs while a bases-loaded hit by pitch and an error accounted for the other runs for a five-run sixth inning. The Cougars rallied in the seventh to score two runs, but ultimate came up five runs short of extending their season.

Kratcha, Prescott, Jack Higginbotham, and Blish all had two hits in the game, accounting for four of the team's six RBI with Rylan Ruenger and Baumann accounting for the other two. Siggy Hansen went the distance for the win, alllowing four runs (1 ER) on four hits while striking out three over seven innings.

According to the Sturgeon Bay Baseball Facebook page, this is Sturgeon Bay's first win in playoffs since 2019 (2024 advanced one round via forfeit by Ripon).

Sturgeon Bay heads to Bonduel next week for round two of the playoffs.
