Clippers Earn Split Against Algoma Behind Strong Nightcap Rally

Sturgeon Bay split a Packerland Conference baseball doubleheader Friday night at Algoma, dropping the opener 6-5 in eight innings before rebounding for a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.

 

In Game 1, Sturgeon Bay battled back but fell in extra innings despite a strong outing from Siggy Hansen, who struck out nine and allowed one run over four innings. Eli VanEperen took the loss in relief after pitching 2 2/3 innings.

 

Ethan Kratcha led the Clippers offensively with two hits and three runs scored. Rylan Ruenger and Hansen each added two hits and drove in two runs.

 

Sturgeon Bay responded in Game 2 behind a four-run fifth inning to secure the split. Ruenger started on the mound and returned to record the final out, pitching 4 2/3 innings. VanEperen earned the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.

 

Drew Propsom paced the Clippers at the plate with two hits.

 

With the split, Sturgeon Bay improved to 4-13 overall and 3-10 in Packerland Conference play.
