The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team found a win waiting for them in Green Bay on Monday, winning the first game of a doubleheader 9-1.
A Blazers inning in the first inning and a two-run single from Steven Prescott staked the Clippers to a 3-0 lead after five innings before a six-run sixth inning put the game away. In that frame, Ethan Kratcha cranked a grand slam before Rylan Ruenger drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Drew Propsom doubled in another run. Ruenger earned the win on the mound, pitching two scoreless innings while striking out three. Kratcha, Siggy Hansen, and Propsom all posted two hits as the Clippers outhit the Blazers 10-3. The Clippers' offense was also aided by six Blazers errors.
The Clippers will have to do some work to secure the doubleheader sweep. The game was suspended in the fourth inning with the Blazers holding onto a 5-3 lead. Kratcha has two hits while Prescott and Jack Higgenbotham each have RBI. Hansen got into first inning troubles, allowing the Blazers to lead off the game with four runs before the Clippers could respond three of their own in the first inning.
The Clippers are back in action Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch at Marinette against the Marines.
