Sturgeon Bay was defending home court Tuesday night as N.E.W. Lutheran came into town for a conference matchup. The Clippers (6-6) have been right in the middle of the conference battling throughout the season and the same was true against N.E.W.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle that had the Clippers down just one-point at halftime, 29-28. Various lead changes riddled the frame and Sturgeon Bay continued to fight throughout.
N.E.W. was able to close it out late after an extended scoring drought from the Clippers down the stretch. After taking a 41-39 lead, Lutheran would not trail again in the game and they closed it down in the final minutes at the free throw line without allowing Sturgeon Bay opportunities to close the gap any further.
The Clippers reset to 6-6 on the season after the 50-44 loss, another narrow loss on the season that has seen them in competitive contests late into the final minutes of many games.
Ash led Sturgeon Bay with 19 and Fruzyna added 12. On the opposite side, Schultz had 19 and Lange tacked on 14.
Sturgeon Bay heads to Oconto January 23 at 7 p.m. for their first meeting this season.
