When the Sturgeon Bay Clippers and Sevastopol Pioneers meet on the hardwood on Tuesday night in Sevastopol, there will be much more on everyone's minds than just a basketball game.
The teams face off on a night were the message of 'Stronger Together' a theme and a motto that the Pioneers have adhered to since an offseason youth camp over the summer. During that camp, former Wisconsin star Brian Butch shared that his son, Blake, was once again dealing with a brain tumor. In that very same moment there was a young Pioneer in the school who was dealing with a battle of their own.
That young Pioneer was Lucia Ramirez who is fighting Leukemia. At that moment, the team committed to 'Stronger Together' being their team motto, and set Tuesday nights matchup between the Pioneers and Clippers as a night where these two neighboring communities to gather and raise awareness and funds to help fight childhood cancer.
The evening will center around a Packerland conference game in which the 2-2 Clippers head north to face the 3-1 Pioneers. Each team is coming off Saturday afternoon losses. The Clippers fell at home to Denmark 68-50. Sturgeon Bay led at the break 33-31 and pushed their lead to six in the first half at one point, but couldn't sustain it for both halves. The Pioneers on the other hand fell on the road to Green Bay Southwest 54-45. Andrew Wiesner led the Pioneers with 13 points while Zaul Valdivia added 11 and Bo Tanck chipped in eight points.
You will be able to hear the game with Jacob Nate taking you through the nights events starting with the 6:45 pregame show, and a 7:00PM topoff on U102.1 and NEW Radio Sports Network.
