Clippers settle for silver in Maas' finale on U-102.1

A magical run came to a close in a fourth-straight overtime match for the Sturgeon Bay soccer team as they fell to Oostburg 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

Another bitterly cold day yielded no returns for either side with 12 shots taken between the two teams, but the Clippers' Ross Spritka made the lone save to force the match into overtime.

The Clippers' best chance came in the first overtime when Finn Stevenson's shot was saved by the Flying Dutchmen's Shawn Wynveen. Heartbreak ensued in the second overtime when Cade Dirkse scored on Parker Meerdink's pass with 35 seconds left to give the Flying Dutchmen the golden ball. The Clippers outshot the Flying Dutchmen 10-7 with Stevenson and Daniel Wienke each registering three. They also had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Clippers still held their heads high after a season that saw them earn regional, sectional, and Packerland titles and helped Coach Todd Maas eclipse 300 wins in his final season at the helm.
