Clippers clinch state soccer berth in penalty kicks on U-102.1

For the second match in a row, the Sturgeon Bay Clippers needed every ounce of time on the clock to secure the win, this time doing so in penalty kicks for the 0-0 (4-3 PK) win for the sectional title on Saturday in Kiel.

The match was tied at zero after 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime before entering penalty kicks.

The two teams traded goals with Finn Stevenson and Zone Wienke scoring before Ross Spritka flipped the advantage in the shootout with a save. Simon Downey made it 3-2 before the Hawks tied it at three. The goalkeepers each registered saves on the next two attempts before an injured Will Estes sent the Clippers packing to Milwaukee with a decisive fourth goal.

The Clippers will join Arcadia, Oostburg, and Madison Country Day Co-op for a chance at the state title beginning Thursday at 4:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
