Clippers soccer power past Paladins on U-102.1

The Sturgeon Bay soccer team had to take its time to topple Providence Academy 3-0 at home Monday night.

The Paladins took a defense-first approach against the Clippers, who were only able to muster a single tally in the first half thanks to Jaylen Reynolds' goal in the 28th minute. The Clippers had more luck in the second half with Joni Ismaili burying a Finn Stevenson feed in the 51st minute to make it 2-0. The Benzingers worked together for the third goal in the 72nd minute when Aidan found Ashton for the tally.

The Clippers managed to get 18 shots on goal against the Paladins, forcing goalkeeper Brady Cox to make 15 saves. Meanwhile, the Paladins managed just three shots total, with only Reuben Sauder and Monty Gungor getting theirs on target.

The Clippers return to work on Friday when they visit Cedarburg for a weekend set against the host school, Germantown, and Milwaukee King.

Monday's action also includes Algoma beating NEW Lutheran 6-0 while Kewaunee falling to Peshtigo 7-3.

Tuesday matches include Gibraltar/Sevastopol traveling to Freedom and Luxemburg-Casco facing Wrightstown on the road for matches at 4:30 p.m.
