The Sturgeon Bay Clippers volleyball team went winless in their weekend tournament on Saturday, but the 0-4 record doesn’t tell the full story of their performance against some of the state’s tougher programs.
The Clippers pushed Eau Claire Memorial to three sets before falling 1-2 in their opening match. They followed with a two-set loss to Holmen, who remains unbeaten on the season at 18-0. The slate didn’t get any easier with a matchup against Sun Prairie West (12-8), resulting in a 0-2 loss, before closing the day with another straight-sets defeat against Appleton East.
Despite the outcome, Sturgeon Bay showed grit and growth against quality opponents with strong early-season records. These challenges provide valuable experience as the Clippers continue to prepare for their conference schedule where they will face Kewaunee this Thursday at 7 p.m. on the road.
