The Sturgeon Bay Clippers closed out a strong week of soccer with two more victories, improving to 4-1-1 on the season.
As heard on U-102.1 on Thursday, Sturgeon Bay traveled to Gibraltar/Sevastopol and came away with a 3-1 win. The Clippers carried that momentum into Friday night at home on The Pirate, shutting out Kiel in a 4-0 victory.
Head coach Todd Maas praised his team’s performance against the Raiders, calling it one of their most complete games of the year.
“Our guys played really well. I thought we moved the ball pretty good. Our defense was strong and well-organized. A great team effort,” said Maas. “Obviously, there are always things to improve on, but this was a very clean game for us. I’m proud of the way the guys have progressed thus far.”
In Friday’s win, Daniel Wienke led the way with two goals, while Joni Ismaili and Kemal Ismaili each added one. Joni also delivered a highlight assist to Wienke for a simple tap-in finish.
Next week, the Clippers face another busy stretch with three scheduled matches, including two more at home. Maas hopes his squad can keep their energy high and the quality of play sharp as the season continues.
